About Rolling Stones
The Rolling Stones are a British rock band from London, England. The band's name, inspired by the Muddy Waters song Rollin' Stone, reflects its roots in blues, in which the Stones were major players as part of the British blues boom. Their first successes in the United Kingdom and the United States came during the British Invasion of the 1960s, with hits such as (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction in 1965. They were formed in 1962 by guitarist and original leader Brian Jones, pianist Ian Stewart, singer Mick Jagger, guitarist Keith Richards, bassist Dick Taylor, and drummer Mick Avory. Bassist Bill Wyman and drummer Charlie Watts joined the band soon after, while Ian Stewart, dropped from the official lineup in 1963 by manager Andrew Loog Oldham, remained the band's session pianist until his death in 1985.In 2019, their worldwide sales were estimated at over 240 million, making them the second-most-charting band on the Billboard Hot 100. They are ranked fourth on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. The Rolling Stones were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989, and Mick Jagger was knighted in 2002.
